A 123 year-old Passion for Glass<\/h1>\n

1896 was the year Karl Benz introduced the worlds first horse-free automated carriage, Wilhelm C. R\u00f6ntgen published his discoveries of the \u201dX-rays\u201d and the opera La Boheme had it’s grand opening.<\/b><\/p>\n

1896 was also the year Johan Nielsen Bech started his glazier-shop in Odense.<\/b><\/p>\n

123 years later, it’s still a family-run company, and managed by third and forth generation of Bechs. It has since grown, and moved further up north to Randers. But the tradition of high-quality glazier work is still a part of the company’s fundamental DNA.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Det var ogs\u00e5 \u00e5ret hvor Johan Nielsen Bech startede en glarmester-forretning i Odense.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

123 \u00e5r senere, er virksomheden stadig i familiens h\u00e6nder – og drevet b\u00e5de af tredje og fjerde generation Bech\u2019ere. Den er ganske vist blevet st\u00f8rre og flyttet til Randers. Men dengang som nu, st\u00e5r JN Bech for glasarbejde af allerh\u00f8jeste kvalitet.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

A visit to JN Bechs showroom, is a travel in time. From beautiful delicate 1900-century glass-mosaics to top modern, streamlined, minimalistic glass decor. JN Bech is up-front with the newest trends in mirrors and glass materials.<\/span><\/p>\n

The company specializes in mirrors with and without backlighting, mirror lighting, glass doors, and glass- and panework for houses, offices and other buildings. What characterizes JN Bechs products, is the high standard in the quality of the glass, the design and the grinding.<\/span><\/p>\n

Et bes\u00f8g i JN-Bechs showroom er en rejse i tiden. Fra sirlige smukke 1900-tals glasmosaikker til topmoderne, str\u00f8mlinede, minimalistisk indretnings-elegance. JN Bech har fingeren p\u00e5 pulsen og f\u00f8lger de nyeste trends indenfor glasmaterialer og spejle.<\/span><\/p>\n

Virksomheden specialiserer sig p\u00e5 spejle og lysspejle, lamper til spejle glasopslagstavler, glasd\u00f8re og glasv\u00e6gge til huse, kontorer og andre bygninger. Det som kendetegner JN Bechs produkter er deres h\u00f8je standard b\u00e5de i glaskvaliteten, samt i design og slibning.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

Handle with care!<\/h2>\n

When dealing with products made of glass, it goes without saying that the packaging is very important.<\/p>\n

Every product has unique measurements, and no two packagings are the same. On top of this, each packaging has to fit the products snugly. This is challenging.<\/p>\n

Until recently, each package was done manually using wooden frames and cardboard. A time-consuming process.<\/p>\n

The need for a better solution<\/h2>\n

When packing became a serious bottleneck, JN Bech needed a solution.<\/p>\n

The result was a Z\u00fcnd G3 XL3200 cutter. The cutter’s job is to cut cardboard boxes for packaging. This is done with a very high level of efficiency with up to 90% utilization of each board. A considerable improvement from earlier, and a benefit for the company’s profit and the environment.<\/p>\n

It’s not only cost reduction on materials that are benficial. The workers in the packaging department experience better work-conditions, and are relieved from heavy lifts.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Handle with care!<\/span><\/h2>\n

N\u00e5r man har at g\u00f8re med glasprodukter, er det indforst\u00e5et at pakningen er s\u00e6rdeles vigtig.<\/span><\/p>\n

Da deres produkter er specialfremstillet efter m\u00e5l, er der sj\u00e6ldent to emballager som er helt ens. Det giver store udfordringer i pakningen, da denne skal passe pr\u00e6cis til produkterne.<\/span><\/p>\n

Derfor har man tidligere benyttet tr\u00e6rammer med pap. En proces, som b\u00e5de var tids- og ressourcekr\u00e6vende.<\/span><\/p>\n

Behov for en bedre l\u00f8sning<\/span><\/h2>\n

Da pakning blev for stor en flaskehals, m\u00e5tte JN Bech finde en bedre l\u00f8sning.<\/span><\/p>\n

Det blev en G3 XL3200 sk\u00e6remaskine.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sk\u00e6remaskinens opgave er at sk\u00e6re pap ud til emballager. Det g\u00f8r den med en h\u00f8j effektivitet og en udnyttelsen af hvert ark er helt op p\u00e5 90%. En betydelig forbedring fra tidligere \u2013 og noget som er til gavn b\u00e5de for milj\u00f8 og \u00f8konomi.<\/span><\/p>\n

Den er med deres egne ord; \u201dRentabel uden sammenligning\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Det er ikke kun p\u00e5 materiale at der er store fordele. Pakkepersonalet har f\u00e5et et betydeligt bedre arbejdsmilj\u00f8 og er fri for tunge l\u00f8ft.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

The bottelneck is gone!<\/h1>\n

It is now possible to plan the packaging much better. When the number of orders are published, the measurement of each order is loaded into the software-application \u201dImpact Designer\u201d. The files are then sent to Prepare-it!, that nests the packages for maximal usage of the material. After this, they are ready to be cut. The operator starts before the packaging department opens, so the boxes are folded and ready for packaging.

Why boxes for mirrors and panes?<\/h2>\n

\u201dFor us, packaging goes beyond just practical. It must reflect the quality that our customers expect of our products\u201d Camilla Bech, forth generation manager explains. \u201dA box is so much more substantiel and nice to the feel than wooden frames. Also, many of our mirrors have backlighting attached, that requires more space in the package.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>

Flaskehalsen er v\u00e6k<\/span><\/h1>\n

Det er nu muligt at planl\u00e6gge produktionen langt mere effektivt. N\u00e5r ordre-antallet kendes bliver de forskellige m\u00e5l p\u00e5 ordrene tastet ind i emballageprogrammet \u201dImpact Designer\u201d \u2013 som sender filerne til Prepare-it, der nester kasserne for optimal materialeudnyttelse, hvorefter de er klar til sk\u00e6ring. Operat\u00f8ren starter inden pakkeriet g\u00e5r i gang, s\u00e5 kasserne kan st\u00e5 foldet og klar til pakning.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hvorfor kasser til spejle og glasplader?<\/span><\/h2>\n

\u201dFor os er det vigtigt, at vores varer leveres i en emballage som ikke kun er praktisk, men ogs\u00e5 afspejler den kvalitet, som kunden forventer af vores produkter.\u201d Svarer Camilla Bech, som er fjerde generations leder i virksomheden. \u201dEn kasse virker langt mere substantiel end tr\u00e6rammer. Og s\u00e5 har mange af vores spejle ogs\u00e5 lyskasser bagp\u00e5, som kr\u00e6ver lidt ekstra plads i emballagen\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

Network and good recommendations led to Z\u00fcnd<\/span><\/h1>\n

\u201dWe have been working with specialized engineers to create the optimal setup for packaging. A part of the solution, however, came from a completely different front. Our existing packaging supplier STOK Emballage recommended a company in Odder, who specializes in digital cutting tables and solutions – Z\u00fcnd Skandinavien\u201d. Camilla tells.<\/span><\/p>\n

An advantage with a local showroom<\/span><\/h2>\n

For JN Bech, it was naturally important to experience the speed and capacity of the XL-3200 Cutter. \u201dVi were happy to be able to visit their showroom, and see the cutter handle our specific applications. We felt confident and well taken care of throughout the whole process, and for us, it is a big bonus that we can buy from a Danish company. We have other machines in our company that are bought abroad. And even though everyone speaks English, we feel that things sometimes are lost in communication.<\/span><\/p>\n

What about service and maintenance?<\/span><\/h3>\n

\u201dWe haven’t been needing maintenance so far. The cutter works flawlessly. When one day an issue occurs, we know that the help is very near\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201dVi samarbejdede med ingeni\u00f8rer omkring vores udfordringer med pakningen, og en del af l\u00f8sningen skulle vise sig at komme fra en uventet kant – nemlig fra vores eksisterende emballage-leverand\u00f8r STOK Emballage\u201d fort\u00e6ller Camilla \u201dDe anbefalede et firma i Odder, som var specialiseret i sk\u00e6remaskiner – Z\u00fcnd Skandinavien\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

En XL-3200 sk\u00e6remaskine er en betydelig investering, s\u00e5 naturligvis ville JN Bech gerne have et fuldent indtryk af hvad sk\u00e6remaskinen kunne pr\u00e6stere. \u201dVi synes det var en rigtig god oplevelse at komme i deres showroom og opleve maskinen sk\u00e6re vores emballager\u201d fort\u00e6ller Camilla. \u201dVi f\u00f8lte os meget trygge i processen, og for os er det et k\u00e6mpe plus at vi kan k\u00f8be fra en dansk afdeling. Vi har andre maskiner – bl.a. fra Italien – og selv om de taler engelsk, s\u00e5 g\u00e5r der noget tabt i kommunikationen.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Hvad med service p\u00e5 maskinen?<\/span><\/h2>\n

\u201dDet har vi slet ikke haft brug for. Sk\u00e6remaskinen k\u00f8rer bare. Men vi ved godt, at det en dag kommer – og til den tid ved vi at hj\u00e6lpen er meget n\u00e6r.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
